WHY CONCRETE PRESERVATION MATTERS
Seal concrete while there is still something worth preserving.
New concrete can receive its first SIP-1133™ treatment as soon as 30 days after the pour, or when the installer's curing guidance allows. Existing concrete does not need to wait for a future project cycle. If it is sound, clean, dry, and able to absorb a penetrating treatment, today is the right time to put preservation on the schedule.
Reapply every 3–5 years to keep preservation in the maintenance plan. Heavy traffic, aggressive deicing-salt exposure, cleaning practices, and surface wear can justify checking the surface sooner.
Those field studies evaluated other sealer chemistries, not SIP-1133™, and do not establish a SIP-1133™ service life. The CMT and Iowa State results below address the product-specific laboratory evidence. Deep spalls, active structural cracking, failed joints, drainage problems, or crumbling concrete still need repair before sealing.

SIP-1133™ is a water-based, soybean-oil-derived emulsion for sealing Portland cement concrete. Its current SDS reports a 599°F flash point, no odor, and non-dangerous-goods status for DOT transport. A current SDS for one 99% active commercial silane sealer classifies that product as a flammable liquid, with a 108°F flash point and 328 g/L VOC. That difference can simplify fire and vapor controls for DIY-scale work and bridge-deck application over waterways. At qualifying bulk volume, SIP-1133™ material can cost less than $1 per square yard at the stated coverage rate. SIP-1133™ still requires PPE, controlled spraying, and spill containment.

Construction Materials Testing is a Des Moines laboratory founded in 2001. CMT specializes in Portland cement concrete testing and publishes AASHTO, CCRL, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers laboratory accreditations. For Project 261121SOY, CMT prepared the concrete specimens, ran the freeze-thaw chamber, recorded the measurements, and issued the report.

15 to 21+ cyclesIn internal testing conducted at Iowa State University, untreated specimens failed after one to three cycles. SIP-1133™ treated specimens lasted fifteen to more than twenty-one cycles; at eighteen cycles, two showed no visible scaling and one showed minor scaling.

Prepare and apply
Clean and dry the surface, confirm temperatures are 40°F and rising with no rain expected, protect adjacent areas, and follow the current coverage and spray instructions.

Reapply every 3–5 years. Check high-traffic or salt-exposed surfaces sooner, and address damage before the next treatment.
SIP-1133™ is supplied as a 1:2 concentrate. Add two gallons of water to one gallon of concentrate to make three gallons of ready-to-apply treatment. Apply the diluted treatment at one gallon per 40 square yards (360 square feet). One gallon of concentrate therefore treats 120 square yards (1,080 square feet) when properly diluted. SIP-1133™ combines product-specific laboratory testing, university testing, patented biobased chemistry, and long-term field research on concrete-sealer maintenance. Each source answers a different question, and the evidence guide keeps those claims separate.
- Demonstrated freeze-thaw protection In independent CMT testing, a SIP-1133™ development formulation recorded 42.9% less mass loss than untreated concrete after 180 freeze-thaw cycles. A second tested formulation retained the highest average relative dynamic modulus among the five groups at 120 cycles.
- University-tested performance SIP-1133™ was evaluated in Iowa State University’s CCEE Structures Laboratory in 2021 under Professor Christopher Williams. The evidence guide explains the internal test program and results.
- USPTO-examined innovation U.S. Patent No. 12,297,150 covers the AESO technology used in SIP-1133™. Before issuing the patent, the USPTO examined the claimed invention for utility, novelty, and non-obviousness.

Is my concrete a good candidate for SIP-1133™?
Start with sound Portland cement concrete that can absorb a penetrating treatment. The surface should be clean and dry, with serious spalling, active structural cracking, failed joints, and drainage problems repaired first. Identify any existing sealer or coating because it may block penetration. A small test area can confirm absorption and finished appearance before full application.
When should SIP-1133™ first be applied to new concrete?

What safety controls still apply?
Read the current SDS and label before use. Wear suitable gloves and eye protection, avoid breathing spray mist, control overspray, and contain spills. Do not let SIP-1133™ enter drains or waterways.
