City Asphalt, Staten Island: SIP-1111™ in a 45% RAP Field Study

A Rutgers University CAIT report evaluated SIP-1111™ in high-RAP mixtures produced by City Asphalt and placed in Staten Island. The 45% RAP SIP-1111™ mixture met both rutting and cracking thresholds cited in the report.

Report and mixture context

The July 2024 final report, Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Soylei Recycling Agent (RA) in High RAP Asphalt Mixtures in New York City, documents City Asphalt plant production from September 15 through September 28, 2023. It evaluates 45% and 50% RAP mixtures with SIP-1111™ against a baseline 40% RAP control and additional no-additive production mixtures.

The balanced-mixture-design evaluation uses an HT-IDT strength threshold of greater than 30 psi at 44°C for rutting and an IDEAL-CT Index threshold of greater than 135 at 25°C for fatigue cracking.

What the result establishes

Figure 18 places the 45% RAP SIP-1111™ mixture inside the passing quadrant. The 40% RAP control and 50% RAP SIP-1111™ mixture fall below the report-cited IDEAL-CT minimum.

For producers working with urban RAP streams, this field study demonstrates a five-point increase over the 40% RAP baseline while meeting the report’s paired rutting and cracking criteria.
